There was an article in the Costco magazine this month about what to do with the industrial size sun dried tomatoes. With only two of us in the house (plus a baby) it doesn't seem like we would use a Costco membership all that much, but we save enough on milk and eggs alone to pay for it. We also buy cereal, meat (freeze it!) and fruits/vegetables there. Although we too have fallen victim to the allure of the giant bag of dried fruit...I just threw the apricots out a few weeks ago! Neither of us jump at the chance to go to the grocery store, but mention that you're going to Costco and we're in the car with the baby in five seconds flat. I think they pump something into the air to make sure you get addicted!

Too, too true.

I really *do* get high at Costco. I jump up on the dolly, and my husband pushes me around like I'm 5...it's magical.

When I first got preggers, everyone told me I needed lots of ginger ale. So lots and lots of ginger ale is what I bought.

Turns out? Gag-a-maggot. Now I have to hide the cans all over the place - cupboards, closets, bathrooms. I like your street corner idea.

I love the people that shop there in preparation for nuclear war. They may be dead from the heat blast but damn it, they've got bottled water.

Alexandra, I hope you kept the baggies! That's quantity I need.
I think this box store thing would work out if we all lived on the same block. Then I could snag some of Amy's hamburger buns while she took some of these sundried tomatoes off my hand.
I liked it for milk, diapers, cereal. But, yes, I got my membership "thanks to Madoff" I growled, but I spent $500.
I am going to go again and see if I can do less impulse, dried fruit buying.

I'm laughing my ass off on this one. My husband thinks our life is sponsered by the Kirkland brand... diapers, wipes, garbage bags, huge shampoo & body wash bottles, mega bottles of seasonings, something like three gallons of applesauce, so much home cleaning items that I need a dedicated shelf in the garage to hold them all... I've got nearly an entire freezer full of hamburger buns because the kirkland pack of like 100 was the SAME PRICE as 8 at our regular store. It's the same story with tortilla chips. The Kirkland 2lb bag is only like 50 cents more than a tiny bag of the same chip at the grocery store so I buy the Kirkland bag and then have to scramble to figure out a way to keep them all fresh. Of course Costco came to the rescue here too and sold me on a Foodsaver.... I probably spend more on the bags for that thing than I'm saving on buying in bulk in the first place. Ugh.

I just helped a neighbor pack up for a move to Atlanta. I wasn't saying anything, but I threw away BOXES of 5 year old, expired Kirkland dried prunes, enough soup in a cups to feed this town, boxes of baggies that you could work out with, and cans of tomato sauce (for what? a skunk bath on like 10 dogs???)

Don't get the largescale buying. a friend tried to talk me into "spending to save" thinking, and I just couldn't see it. I only needed a few pairs of underwear, but had to buy a box of 30. I only needed one bra, but had to buy a package of 6. And, the worst, I had to buy all the Star Wars movies cellophaned together, instead of the first one...which is the only one I wanted. So, I came in ready to spend $25.00, but left "saving" by only spending $300???? Makes no sense to me....never went back.

Laughing with you on this! We have an abundance of "asian snack mix" the one's with the wasabi peas, let me know if you are interested in 10 pounds or so . . . haha

Oh, an idea for the GoGurt, freeze them! Then they are an "ice cream" like treat. That's what we used to do!

Good luck! :-)
